HOUSING
Participants stay in the residence halls or Colegio Mayores on the Universidad Complutense de Madrid campus. There are several different residence halls that MLSA utilizes for the summer programs. Graduate-level students taking the Programa Superior or Intensivo I and undergraduate-level students taking the Programa General, Intensivo I or Intensivo II are housed in different residences. Each residence hall has different features available, and information about housing specifics will be sent to applicants. Each residence is owned and operated completely independently from each other; therefore, students are not allowed to use the facilities (pool, gym, dining hall, etc.) located in other residence halls where MLSA students are housed.
In the residence halls, students are housed in individual rooms with private bathrooms. All rooms have Ethernet internet access. WIFI is available in the common areas, and access in the rooms may be limited in terms of coverage so we recommend that you bring your computers and an Ethernet cable and/or USB adapter if necessary. Laundry is the responsibility of the student in the residence hall. Washing machines and dryers are available on a first come first served basis.
Homestays are available upon request and on a limited basis. Since limited families are available, requests for homestays cannot be guaranteed. Students should make the request for homestays on their initial application.
In families, students are housed in single or double rooms depending upon availability. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from campus. MLSA highly recommends that students who stay in host families obtain the Metro Pass for public transportation in Madrid, which will allow unlimited rides on the bus and subway for a period of 30 days. Laundry services are provided by the host family.
MEALS
Meals are included in the program cost. Three meals a day are included in the graduate residences, Galdos or SEPI. In the undergraduate residences, Santa Monica, three meals a day are provided except for dinner on Sundays and holidays. Please note that breakfast at the residence halls is very light. It is considered European Continental, not American style. You can expect milk, coffee, juice, cereal, bread, and pastries.
In families, students are provided three meals a day. Students should inform MLSA prior to the program start date if they have any allergies or dietary restrictions that will affect their stay in a host family. This includes food, smoke, and pet allergies.
Please note that lunch in Spain is the largest meal of the day and typically served around 2:00 p.m. Dinner is served quite late, usually closer to 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m.
HOUSING ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE
Students who arrive on the scheduled arrival date within the arrival time window will be provided airport pickup.
Students who travel in France or Europe prior to the arrival date must go to their assigned residence hall or family on the scheduled arrival date on their own. Participants must vacate the residence hall or family on the scheduled date of departure. Please do not plan to arrive at your residence before the listed date, or stay after the listed date. No exceptions will be made.
If you need to arrive earlier or stay later than the designated dates, we can recommend lodging. Please contact us for further information. Below you will find a few recommendations on lodging. MLSA does not receive any compensation for recommending these businesses.

As a general rule, no changes in the assigned housing are permitted once the housing has been established, approved, and confirmed. Only in some cases and special circumstances will changes be allowed. A penalty may be established for breaking the agreement—in addition to any other fees originated by a change. Changes would include: from family to apartment or by leaving housing assigned by the MLSA office. No housing arrangements will be made for participants bringing children with them.
