Students can participate in optional excursions which are available through the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. These may include: Toledo; Segovia; Asturias; Granada, and more. MLSA Sponsors the Excursion to the North of Spain, which includes the opportunity to see Running of the bulls in Pamplona; beach in Biarritz, France, with stops in Burgos and Medinaceli.
BEGINNERS SPANISH LANGUAGE
(CH1601 - Level A1) Study of basic Spanish grammar and vocabulary from a functional and communicative approach. Develop oral and written comprehension and expression, with an emphasis on linguistic practice, in order to acquire basic control of the language in simple contexts and familiar communication that allows them closer contact to the Spanish way of life.
BEGINNERS SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CONVERSATION
(CH1611 - Level A1) Practice of basic Spanish concepts with an emphasis placed on spoken language in order to acquire more security and confidence when managing basic Spanish. Also students begin to have contact with Spain and the everyday life of the Spanish.
LOW-INTERMEDIATE SPANISH
(CH2601 - Level A2) Intensive course of initial-intermediate level of Spanish and Spanish culture. Under a communicative approach, students acquire functional contents of the level such as understanding and expressing ideas in a conversation, telling personal experiences in the past, or, among others, talking about facts that may occur in the future. Activities that develop especially oral and written expression skills are put into practice.
LOW-INTERMEDIATE CONVERSATION AND CULTURE
(CH1651- Level A2) Intensive course supplementary to the Spanish language where the contents of initial intermediate level are put into practice. Special emphasis in the oral expression to acquire greater confidence in the interaction in everyday situations and to come in contact with the way of life of the Spaniards.
INTERMEDIATE SPANISH LANGUAGE
(CH 2611 - Level B1) Achieve more confidence in the use of the language and control of complex grammatical aspects. Special emphasis on the use and practice of learned grammatical structures.
INTERMEDIATE CONVERSATION AND CULTURE
(CH2651 - Level B1) Concentration on oral practice although all four linguistic skills will be practiced. Students will study general aspects of Spanish culture, keeping in mind geographical and cultural diversity, as well as Spanish current events.
HIGH-INTERMEDIATE SPANISH LANGUAGE
(CH3601 - Level B2.1) Strengthening comprehension and oral and written expression at a high-intermediate level of Spanish. A reflexive study and practice of grammar structures. General review of the morpho-syntax of the Spanish language from a functional perspective.
HIGH-INTERMEDIATE SPANISH CULTURE
(CH3641 - Level B2.1) Approaching modern Spanish society through commentaries and debates. The class demands students read different texts, as well as linguistic correctness both in oral and written expression.
ADVANCED SPANISH LANGUAGE I
(CH4601 - B2.2) Focus on the study and practice of different aspects of the spoken and written language from the point of view of its use. Analysis of different registers in the practice of the language. Study of specific grammar problems in order to correct written and spoken Spanish.
ADVANCED SPANISH LANGUAGE II
(CH4611 - C1) Intensive course to review of Spanish morpho syntax. Study of the specific problems of complex grammatical structures to achieve a deep domain of the internal structure of the language. Study of expressions and idioms, specific vocabulary and technicalities. Requirement: to have passed advanced Spanish Language CH4601.
ADVANCED LANGUAGE - PROFICIENCY
(CH4621 - C2) Course to deepen in the lexical and formal domain of the language to acquire a knowledge of the territorial and social variants that allow the student to become an autonomous speaker, owner of a knowledge and a correction close to those of a native speaker cultured, capable to understand any type of spoken or written language, as much in oral conversations as in speeches or in abstract texts as well as to perceive and transmit with subtlety and precision with a style adapted to the communicative context.
ADVANCED SPANISH CULTURE
(CH4641 - Levels B2.2, C1, C2) Study of the major historical events of Spain as well as the most prominent artistic expressions. The class demands linguistic correctness.
At UAN, courses are offered in the following areas: Spanish Language, Literature, Culture, Methodology, Linguistics, Art, Communications, Marketing, Business, History, Sociology. Courses are taught in Spanish and some electives in English by full-time faculty members from Antonio de Nebrija. Please note, some courses may require a minimum of 8-10 students registered.
SPANISH THEATRE IN THE 20TH CENTURY
(CH3691 - B2.2, C1, C2) A study of the development of Spanish theater, with a special in-depth study of the following themes: Lorca, the post-war and the present-day period. Students are required to read some complete works and, whenever possible, attend theatrical performances where at least one attendance will be required.
CELESTINA AND DON JUAN
(CH4652 - C1, C2) ) A study of the most representative characters from La Celestina, by Fernando de Rojas, and Don Juan, by Tirso de Molina, relating them to similar characters throughout the whole of Spanish literature. Recommended only for levels Advanced Spanish II (C1) and Advanced Language Proficiency (C2).
SPANISH FOR BUSINESS
(CH5421 - B2.2, C1, C2) Course to acquire and develop the specific language for legal and economic topics. Readings and commentaries of journalistic texts and specific examples of legal and economic documents are made. Attention is given to work situations in Spain in order to promote intercultural competence in students.
PANORAMA OF SPANISH LITERATURE
(CH3131 - B2.2, C1, C2) A general review of Spanish literature. Introduction to the major movements, authors, and genres of literature in Spain and a social, historical and psychological analysis of the Spanish society through literature.
CONTEMPORARY SPANISH NOVEL
(CH3681 - B2.2, C1, C2) NOVELA ESPAÑOLA CONTEMPORÁNEA
General view of Spanish prose from the post-war period to the present day. Major movements. Analysis and comments on selected texts. Latest trends. Perspectives of a novel. It is mandatory to read some novels.
WOMEN IN SPANISH GOLDEN AGE LITERATURE
(CH4631 - B2.2, C1, C2) LA MUJER EN LA LITERATURA ESPAÑOLA DE LOS SIGLOS DE ORO
Participation of women in Spanish literature. Analysis of literary works about women and/or written by women. Archetypes and types. Spanish authors of the Golden Age. It is obligatory to read fragments and complete works.
SPANISH FOR BUSINESS
(CH5421 - B2.2, C1, C2) Course to acquire and develop the specific language for legal and economic topics. The following courses may be offered with a minimum enrollment of eight participants. Each course is three academic semester credits.
Combination program: This is the perfect mix of half-time in Spanish and half-time in English. Participants may combine an elective course with a Spanish language course for a total of six academic semester credits.

Art in Spain
This course will analyze main artistic manifestations in Painting in Madrid and will provide you with the tools to identify, classify, understand, criticize, and appreciate the most relevant Spanish works of art, particularly those found in Madrid. You will have the opportunity to learn by seeing, feeling, and living the art and its expressions in Madrid as you study the painted art works in situ. To this end, you will explore the most relevant museums in Madrid that hold the artistic expressions of the painters studied in this course. You will be able to recognize and analyze the most important works of Spanish painters such as El Greco, Velázquez, and Goya in the magnificent Prado Museum; and Picasso, Dalí, and contemporary artists at the Museo Reina Sofía.
European Studies
This course will cover relevant political, economic, and social aspects of European history and culture by examining the interaction among nation-states and their impact on other parts of the world. Students acquire basic intellectual skills through emphasis on critical thinking, considering questions of why and how events occurred. Topics will include European expansion, political revolutions, Industrialization, nationalism, colonialism, European wars and the European Union.

Spain Today (May be offered in place of European Studies. Subject to enrollment.)
An in-depth analysis of Spanish society and culture will be the main focus of this course where several interesting current topics related to Spain's economy and politics will also be debated. The course will start with an overview of Spanish history followed by Spanish cultural tendencies, political and economic issues, and social topics such as work, family, and everyday life. Spain's position within Europe, both historically and currently, will also be discussed.
International Management
This course will cover relevant aspects of management in an intercultural context, treating topics normally covered in any management class while including international complications. Special attention will be paid to the impact of culture on planning, organizing, staffing, and communication. Students will acquire basic skills to help them deal with people from different cultural backgrounds (clients, customers, suppliers, colleagues, bosses) and will learn through case studies and real-world examples.
