SCHOLARSHIPS

NSE Scholarship for Spanish Teachers
 

The National Spanish Examinations (NSE), a program of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), is committed to providing teachers and students with opportunities to refine their academic portfolios by participating in first-hand experiences with the Spanish and Portuguese languages and cultures. 

For teachers who administer any of the exams offered by the National Spanish Examinations(i.e. NSE, NPE, NSC, NSA), the NSE offers various Study Abroad Scholarships for Teacher and Students. ​Learn more: NSE Awards 


MLSA Early Bird Scholarships for students to study in Spain and Costa Rica
MLSA offers scholarships of up to $500 for the programs in Costa Rica and Spain. Here are the requirements:

  • Be pursuing a major or minor in Spanish and demonstrate interest in studying abroad in Costa Rica or Spain. 


  • Have been accepted into the MLSA program.


  • Write an essay on "Why I want to Study Abroad." No minimum length required.


  • Have a GPA of 3.30.


  • Submit an official college transcript.


  • Submit a letter of recommendation from one of your Spanish teachers.


Deadline for Application: January 30.


Students are encouraged to apply for the scholarship at the time of application or shortly after. Please note that the payment schedule, if applicable to your direct program, must be followed while waiting to receive notice of the scholarship recipients.

OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Below you'll find a list of scholarships offered by outside organizations and companies. These scholarships may be directly related to study abroad or may be general scholarships. Eligibility requirements will vary based on degree level, major, host country, financial need, and the applicant's background. Please refer to each scholarship's website for more details.


American Association of University Women Fellowships and Grants 
One of the world's largest sources of funding for graduate women, AAUW is providing more than $3 million in funding for more than 200 fellowships and grants to outstanding women and nonprofit organizations.


Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Recipients are awarded up to $5,000 toward the costs of studying abroad.


Boren Awards for International Study 


Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation
Travel Study Awards through the CJS foundation are available to Silver or Gold Award Girl Scouts who plan to study abroad.


Fund for Education Abroad
FEA is proud to offer dedicated scholarships to students who, in addition to meeting general eligibility requirements, also meet select demographic, regional, or semester criteria.  Applicants for the Athletes Abroad and Rainbow Scholarships self-identify for consideration through their application forms; applicants for regional, destination-specific, or summer scholarships are automatically considered for the corresponding dedicated scholarship(s).

  • Athletes Abroad Scholarship - Available to applicants who are student-athletes (club, intramural, or varsity) participating in any program or subject that confers credits toward degree completion.
  • BASAA Scholarship - Awarded to a deserving student who attends a U.S. university/college located in the BASAA area (Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Connecticut). 
  • DC Area Scholarship - Available to a deserving student who attends a U.S. university/college located in the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, or suburban Maryland. 
  • Jane Gluckmann & Carol Rausch Go Global Scholarship - Awarded to one student each year planning to study abroad in Mexico, Central America, South America, France, or Germany.  
  • Minnesota Scholarship - Awarded to a deserving student who attends a U.S. university/college located in Minnesota. 
  • PDX Abroad Scholarship - Awarded to a deserving student who attends a U.S. university/college located in the Portland, Oregon area. 
  • Rainbow Scholarship - Awarded to a deserving LGBTQI student who aims to participate in a high-quality, rigorous education abroad program. 
  • STA Travel Start the Adventure Scholarship -  Two FEA/STA Travel Start the Adventure Scholarships ($2,500 each) will be awarded to applicants studying during the summer semester. 


Go OverSeas 
One $500 scholarship awarded for photo essay contest. 


Golden Key Study Abroad Scholarships
Golden Key offers more than half a million dollars in scholarships and awards each year, including those for both undergrad and graduate students. 


Healthy Lifestyles Scholarships
For high school seniors or first-year college students. Value: $5,000.


HI USA Explore the World Travel Scholarships
​Recipients of the scholarship receive $2,000 to help finance their international trip as long as they have an educational or service component to their itinerary. 


Humane Studies Fellowship
A renewable, non-residency fellowship program for IHS alumni, the Humane Studies Fellowship awards up to $15,000 per year to support graduate students in PhD programs.


Joan Nelson Study Abroad Scholarship (Golden Key)


The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) awards scholarships to 60-70 outstanding students in a variety of academic disciplines for use during the following academic year. Scholarships range from $2,500-$12,000.


The Margarian Scholarship
Law firm offers five (5) awards of $1,000 each for high school juniors or seniors, college/university students, graduate school students who have shown dedication and commitment not only to their education, but also to their society and community.


Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant
Designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Seventy-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year (50 Session A / 25 Session B).


Rotary Foundation Scholarships
The Ambassadorial Scholarships Program of The Rotary Foundation is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. Students can apply by contacting their local Rotary Club. Use the link above to find your local club.


Shawn Carter Foundation Scholarships


​STA Travel Start the Adventure Scholarship


United Negro College Fund
UNCF is the nation’s largest private scholarship provider to minority group members. Each year, we award more than $100 million in scholarships to more than 10,000 students.


Varsity Tutors College Scholarship
A monthly essay contest with an award of $1,000.​​


ZipRecruiter Scholarship
Write a follow-up e-mail for after a job interview and have a chance to receive a $3,000 scholarship. Open to high school and college students (18+).
